Pastor’s Corner 1/19/2023 “Being Real”

I was talking with Nancy not long ago and I said that I felt that the ol’ devil had too much strength in today’s world. In that conversation, Nancy said something that stopped me in my tracks. She said, “We give the devil the strength.”  The beautiful gift of free will can most certainly be abused. I once heard it said that God is a gentleman, meaning He lets us choose everything in life and that he longs for us to choose Him. Today, you can easily pretend that you enjoy your relationship to God and people will say that you are a relatively good person. You can choose to keep God in a box or in a corner in your life to be brought out when it is nice and convenient. (OUCH! I have done this in my past) You can choose not to come to worship. I once heard it said that if honoring God matters to a person, then they won’t miss worship services much. I see truth in that.

Here is what I know: You can’t fool God. You can fool me, but not God, so stop trying. Instead tell Him how you feel. Tell Him that He isn’t the most important thing in this life to you, and that you are sorry for that. Tell Him that you’ve been lukewarm, and that you’ve chosen _____________ over Him time and time again. Tell Him that you want Him to change you this year. Tell Him that you know it’s time to be filled with His living water and that you’re tired of being tired and thirsty. Tell Him that you want to love Him more than anything on earth. Tell Him what you like about Him and what Joy He brings to you. Dare to God deeper with the one who is seeking people who are real.

If you are ready to go deeper in this faith (which involves worshipping in Spirit and in Truth) pray this prayer:

Dear Lord, I need to give myself up. I am not strong enough to love You and walk with You on my own. I can’t do it. I need you. I need you deeply and desperately. I believe you are worth it and that you are better than anything else in this life or the next. My time is short here with you Lord, so lead me. Have your way with me. In Jesus Name, AMEN

Remember, a priority in your life is anything that really matters to you.

Until the nets are full and deep,

Chris
