The MORE OF JESUS Adjustment
I was reading the book, “A Resilient Life” By Gordon Macdonald. In that book he mentioned the overcomers, the people who press forward on the right path with Jesus and some of the traits of the real followers. He calls them the “resilient” ones. One of those traits is the ego or really them moving away from it. In chapter 23, he says that the resilient trim their own egos. He goes on to say, “The ego exists in the interior life. It is the centerpiece of the self.” God created your ego, and it is meant for good, but it has become a virus today. “Humility,” wrote Archbishop William Temple, “does not mean thinking less of yourself than other people, nor does it mean having a low opinion of your own gifts. It means freedom from thinking about yourself at all.” It took Moses forty years of living like a shepherd (and oh how the Egyptians despised shepherds). I think of Lucifer, the fallen angel. He is the most out of control character with an ego problem.
Look at Isaiah 14: 13, 14
“You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God. I will make myself like the Highest. There is more in those two verses, but you get the point. Ego has an insatiable desire for enlargement. We all fight a war within our hearts. Most people don’t understand that ours is a faith where we lay our lives down, including our egos. We all have em,’ but we struggle to lay it down. The church of Jesus Christ is not built on the people who refuse to adjust the ego, it never will be.
John 3: 30 – HE MUST BECOME GREATER; I MUST BECOME LESS.
